WHAT DOES IT TAKE TO BECOME A SUCCESSFUL ADULT? |
 |
| CPR! |
| Compassion, Pride, Responsibility |
 |
| One of the most important issues facing any student is the issue of character development. How did we become who we are? What can we do if we don’t like who we are? What can we do to change? |
 |
| CPR is a life saving technique with which many of us are familiar. It stands for cardio pulmonary resuscitation which is performed to save a life. My CPR is life changing too! It stands for Compassion – Pride – Responsibility. Having CPR is essential to becoming a successful adult! |
| “I integrate some aspect of CPR into every talk. When I talk to students about bullying issues, I include CPR. When I talk about personal growth issues, I bring in CPR. Even when I am asked to develop a completely new talk for an association or school, I include CPR as essential to character development.” |
| Compassion is an integral part of any successful adult, we recognize that others have the same feelings as we do and we don’t intentionally set out to cause pain or hurt to another. Compassion helps us relate and connect to others. |
| Pride is another important quality of a successful adult. We need to feel good about ourselves and our accomplishments. Setting and achieving goals, doing our best at a task, doing the “right thing”, helping another, sharing our knowledge are examples of ways in which we feel pride in ourselves. When we have pride in ourselves, we don’t have to belittle others to make ourselves feel better. |
| Responsibility is critical to becoming a successful adult. Being responsible means we accept our part in what we have done. Being responsible means standing up and admitting we made a mistake just as quickly as we would stand and take credit for having done something well. Responsibility means taking ownership for our actions, even when we aren’t proud of them. Responsibility is necessary to liking who we are. |
| Compassion, Pride, Responsibility are integral aspects of a successful adult. Together, CPR helps us develop our CHARACTER. |
| Character development and personal growth begin at an early age and continue well into maturity. We all have “character”, some are more endearing than others, some are more pleasant, some less pleasant. What causes this? Is this something we can control? |
| Andy Tomko believes we can. He believes that “To live your life in such a manner that it causes a positive effect upon the day that is indeed a Fine Art.” |
| To aid this personal growth and character building, Andy Tomko has developed “The Fine Art” series. Among the topics in this series are: |
“The Fine Art of Winning with Self-Talk”
“The Fine Art of the Destiny of the Mind”
“Build yourself with Character”
“The Fine Art of Re-inventing YOU!” |
| For high school, college students and adults Andy offers an additional talk entitled: “The Fine Art of Letting Go and Moving On”.
